WE WENT IN: end of summer (Labor Day)

REVIEW: This private campground is a gem. All sites are on the river. If you go in warmer months you can float the river, waving to campers and moose along the way. We hiked all over the campground as well as up a 4-wheeling road to a small pond. Bring bikes. Everything was accessible for Isaac, but not great for a stroller because it was very rainy (aka muddy) while we were there and the loops are dirt, not paved. We were across from the trail to the very nice bath house with showers. Lots of trees make the sites feel secluded, and the river sounds make it easy to forget that you have neighbors at all.

Other things to note:

  • Over Labor Day weekend they have a ton of activities for families with kids - scavenger hunt, chili cook-off, and bouncy house to name the highlights.

  • There are a couple of restaurants in nearby Glenallen. We really enjoyed Ernesto's Mobile Grill.

  • There is free wifi.

  • There is laundry.

  • The proprietors worked with us to pick a site that was safer-feeling for our toddler. Thank you! With that said, we were still nervous about the drop off to the river and so Derek rigged a rope fence to keep Isaac back from the slope.
